This cross-sectional analytical study aimed to examine the level of behavior and the factors associated with household waste reduction and segregation among residents in That Subdistrict, Wanon Niwat District, Sakon Nakhon Province. The sample consisted of 343 household representatives selected through multi-stage sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, mean, standard deviation, frequency, and percentage, and inferential statistics, including the chi-square test and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient.
The results revealed that 70.26% of the samples had a good level of household solid waste reduction and segregation behavior. Factors significantly associated with these behaviors were gender (p-value = 0.005) and education level (p-value = 0.043). The study also found a positive correlation with average monthly income (rs= 0.130, p-value=0.016), knowledge (rs= 0.227, p-value < 0.001), attitude (rs= 0.381, p-value < 0.001), subjective norms (rs=0.211, p-value < 0.001), perceived behavioral control (rs=0.344, p-value < 0.001), and behavioral intention (rs= 0.687, p-value < 0.001). Conversely, the number of family members was negatively correlated (rs= -0.199, p-value < 0.001). These findings are consistent with the Theory of Planned Behavior, which identifies behavioral intention as a key determinant of action. Therefore, relevant agencies should organize educational activities and promote positive attitudes toward waste management, strengthen the role of reference groups and community leaders as role models or establish model households for waste segregation, and provide infrastructure that facilitates waste separation. Special attention should be given to large households to enhance behavioral intention and support sustainable waste management.
