This study was a quasi-experimental research using a two-group pretest–posttest design. The purpose was to examine the effects of a preparedness program for receiving dental services on fear, dental service duration, and self-efficacy among early primary school children. Comparisons were made within groups and between the experimental and comparison groups before and after the intervention. The sample consisted of 64 students in grades 1–3 from schools in Kho Khiew Subdistrict, Waritchaphum District, Sakon Nakhon Province. Two schools were selected through simple random sampling. The first randomly selected school was assigned as the experimental group (31 students), and the second school was assigned as the comparison group (33 students). The intervention tool was a preparedness program for receiving dental services using the Tell-Show-Do technique. Data were collected using a fear assessment scale, dental service duration records, and a self-efficacy questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test for within-group comparisons and the Mann–Whitney U test for between-group comparisons. The results after the intervention revealed that; 1. The fear scores of the experimental group decreased significantly (Z=–3.925, p<0.001) and were lower than those of the comparison group (Z=–4.569, p < 0.001). 2. The dental service duration of the experimental group was significantly shorter than that of the control group (Z=–3.925, p< 0.001). 3. The self-efficacy scores related to receiving dental services in the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the comparison group (Z=5.226, p < 0.001).
